Band Biography KoRn was formed in 1993 with the combination of the two bands; Sex Art and LAPD, both formed in Bakersfield (Just outside Los Angeles). Sex Art was the band who Jonathan Davis lead during his years as a coroner LAPD was the band which included James "Munky" Shaffer (guitar), David (drums), Fieldy (bass) and on tour only (not on the album) Brian (guitar). Munky says "Me, Fieldy, and David recorded it when we were about 18 or 19. You might even hear some KoRn parts. That's when I played rippin' Solos." Jonathan was only in Sex Art for ca. four months and did only one song with the lead singer. One night some LAPD members were at a bar where Jonathan was singing, and just as they were to walk out the door, they heard Jonathan sing. In Munky's own words: "Me and Brian turned to each other, and we were like; "Oh my God!"." When they asked Jonathan to join their band, he didn't know whether to do it or not so he went to a psychic "I went to my astrologer, my aunt's teacher, in Bakersfield, she told me about this band and told me I'd be dumb if I didn't get in, she totally predicted the whole thing. I have the tapes to prove it." Their amazing debut album "Korn" in 1994 shredded through the heavy music scene and took the unsuspecting world by storm. The selftitled album went solid platinum. By the time that the brilliant "Life Is Peachy" (1996) was released, Korn had a fanbase of over 2 million. Following this success was a legion of musical imitators. When image is concered, the Bakersfield fivesome ensured that rock clubs would never be the same again. "We've created a new age of heavy music." When asked whether Korn is metal or not Davis answered; "They gotta come up with a new name for it." Over the years Korn have gained enourmous popularity all over the world, and their third album, Follow The Leader, has reached 4,5 million copies sold only in the US. « Back |
